The art of life and life of art
Almost 10 years ago I made a choice to pursue art as a discipline and area of study. So far, it proved to be the right choice for me. I breathe art, which means that in every fiber of my being, art is present. Every time I look at a piece of art, I do not just appreciate its visuality. I appreciate, above and beyond, its social function. That kind of ‘radical’ appreciation of art has been the animating force for me to pursue it. By believing that it has a social function, I see art not just for ‘it’s own sake’ but also for its purpose. Anyway, when I took a PhD is art studies, I was faced with a lot of challenges other that studying art. My brother passed away (he was a single dad) and I took on the task to take care of his two loving daughters. That kind of sudden shift in my life, in a way, hindered me from fully focusing on my studies. Lest I sound unwilling to take care of two new ‘daughters,’ let me say that I truly love them and have committed myself to take care of them to the very best of my abilities. Since I was finishing my dissertation project, it cannot be denied that that kind of setup had its drawbacks. Definitely, I could not just study. I had to work and provide for my girls. Realizing the dream of having a Phd

It was a shock to me to find out that my sister is a battered wife. I discovered it when I made a surprise visit to her house and found out that she is bruised all over. As I reach my senior year in college, it has become more and more exciting and challenging.
